Sean McCarthy

As a fully qualified and accredited psychotherapist, I am currently working in private practice at Leeson Analytic Centre in Dublin. I am an occasional clinical lecturer for senior trainees at The Irish Institute for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy. I am a member of the Irish Council for Psychotherapy (ICP) and the Irish Forum for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (IFPP), where I serve as the current chair. I previously held the positions of chair and director of training for the Irish Institute of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (IIPP).

My primary area of interest lies in the impact of childhood adversity on shaping and moulding our adult experiences. I am also interested in exploring how to subjectively situate ourselves meaningfully within the broader social fabric. Other areas of concern include addictions, trauma, loneliness and social isolation, anxiety, and the development of significant and supportive relationships with others.
